Dr. Hemant Deshmukh is an accomplished medical professional with over three decades of experience in medical education, clinical research, and Endovascular & Interventional Radiologist. Having dedicated his entire career to Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, he has held distinguished leadership positions, including Dean (2018–2021) and Professor Emeritus (2022).
As Dean, Dr. Deshmukh spearheaded academic leadership, clinical excellence, financial management, and strategic planning for one of India’s premier medical institutions. He implemented innovative curricula, strengthened faculty development, and encouraged groundbreaking research. His tenure was marked by resilience and innovation, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he led critical patient management, vaccination programs, and introduced AI-enabled digital X-ray screening in Dharavi, Mumbai.
An expert in Endovascular procedures, Dr. Deshmukh has mentored early-career Endovascular & Interventional Radiologist fellows, guiding them in research, teaching, and clinical practice. He is deeply passionate about medical device innovation and co-invented a low-profile self-expanding blood flow resisting device, for which he was granted a U.S. Patent (2021) and a European Patent (2024).
Dr. Deshmukh holds an MBBS (1982), DMRD (1985), MD (1986), and DNB (1987) from Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital. Beyond his clinical and academic work, he has pursued advanced programs in Digital Health (IIM Raipur), Startup Bootcamp (IIT Delhi), and the prestigious MIT-Harvard Medical School Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp.
With more than 1,295 citations, an h-index of 18, and i10-index of 26, his contributions to academic research are widely recognized. He is respected not only for his medical expertise but also for his unwavering commitment to patient-centric care, ethics, and innovation.
