AVM Embolization

AVM Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) — abnormal tangles of blood vessels that disrupt normal blood flow between arteries and veins. During the procedure, a catheter is guided into the feeding arteries of the AVM, and special materials (such as coils, glue, or particles) are injected to block the abnormal vessels. Embolization may be performed as a stand-alone treatment or before surgery/radiosurgery to reduce the risk of bleeding and complications.

  • Used to treat arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in the brain, spine, or other parts of the body.
  • A catheter is inserted into the feeding artery under imaging guidance.
  • Embolic agents (glue, coils, or particles) block the abnormal vessels.
  • Helps reduce the risk of hemorrhage (bleeding).
  • Can be performed alone or in combination with surgery or radiosurgery.
  • Minimally invasive, with shorter recovery time compared to open surgery.
